2009 wasn’t the best year for me, but I’ll always remember it as the year I took French seriously. That doesn’t mean it’s nothing to me now, although I’m planning to take a two-month break from school (and hopefully make up by watching French films and whatnot).
Learning French would not have been so fun if it weren’t for the people I’ve met along the way. I had the best classmates in AFM–from the crazy morning bunch at the start of the year, to the less rowdy (lol) group in the Saturday afternoon class. Janelle, Manuel, Lance, Seph, Alex, Jonathan, Denise, Felicia, Christian, and Audrey, I hope we meet again soon. Myrza, Soeur, Melinda, Gerry, Richie, Yung Hwoo, Maritess, and those whose names I can’t remember–you guys are really awesome. Here’s to hoping we all get to visit France and do awesome things in the coming year.
I am thankful, too, for my teachers Alexis, Julius, Anton, and Rowena, who made the pronunciation and grammar lessons easy and fun. This includes Philou, my friend and online teacher. Merci beaucoup!
Now, a few memorable quotes:
“Ta sœur est folle. Complètement folle!”
– From French module 4. I swear, my classmates and I couldn’t get over it. We even used it for our Facebook statuses.
“Vous êtes belle!”
– One sunny afternoon in July. I felt feverish for a couple of hours after hearing these words, hehe.
“Un jour viendra, je partirai, je partirai sans aucun regret…”
“Loin de la mer, et pour toujours, vivons sur terre rêvant au grand jour”
– From the French version of Disney’s The Little Mermaid (La Petite Sirène). It pretty much echoed my sentiments at the time I was hooked on the movie.
Yay, 2010 is almost here! To everyone–and not just the people I mentioned in this post–je vous souhaite une bonne année! Bonne santé à tous!
